Tax and Business Consultants
The Watson CPA Group is not a group of tax preparers or number crunchers- we are tax and business consultants and our firm will take you through the cycles of your personal and business lives. Many accountants are only compliance oriented, and while IRS compliance is critical, being proactive is equally important.
Not every business runs the same or has the same needs. We want to ask the appropriate questions, listen, and develop a game plan that works for you. Topics such as entity structure, health insurance, retirement planning, executive fringe benefits, 401k and profit sharing plans, educational assistance programs, health reimbursement arrangements and accountable plans are just some of the areas that define the form and function of today’s business. Square pegs don’t go in round holes- we’ll find the right solution for you and your business.
Moreover, our goal at the Watson CPA Group is to always prepare comprehensive and accurate financial reports, filings and tax returns, but equally important is your understanding of how this stuff “works”. To the extent necessary, we want you to be comfortable with your tax and accounting world so together we can successfully plan for your future.
The Watson CPA Group also embraces technology by utilizing secure client portals and online submit forms to exchange documentation. However, we remain committed to direct delivery, face-to-face interactions and personal relationships with our clients. We are Colorado Springs CPAs but provide nationwide tax and accounting service, including small business consultation.
Here is your Watson CPA Group team-
Tina Watson, CPA, MBA, CFP
Tina Watson became a Certified Public Accountant in 2003. Tina has both a Bachelor’s and Master’s in Business Administration and consults with a variety of small businesses including Defense Contractors.
Tina takes pride in helping her client understand how the numbers come together. She believes that the extra time spent with a client illustrating the mathematical nuances helps everyone better understand their business.Tina also provides divorce litigation and mediation support for family law attorneys. Download CV here.
As a mother of three and avid tennis player (4.5 baby!), Tina still finds time to enjoy traveling, exercise and the occasional moment of downtime (which is like a unicorn).
Jason Watson is a small business consultant specializing in LLCs and S Corporations including entity structure, self-employment taxes, health insurance issues and retirement planning. He is quick to point out that while some basics cover all situations, every business is truly unique.
Jason was an airline pilot for 17 years with United Express flying primarily in and out of Aspen. He has owned two small businesses in the past and holds both a Bachelor’s and Master’s in Business Administration from the University of Wisconsin – Madison. Amazing he made it out alive. To add to the fun, Jason also likes dirt biking, boating in Wisconsin, hiking the incline and cooling off with a Mike’s Harder Blood Orange (don’t laugh until you have one).
Sally Rhoades, CPA, CFP
Sally began her tax career in 1988 with Ernst and Young (never heard of them, are they big?) in Nashville and became a CPA licensed in Tennessee in 1989. For 10 years, she followed her Air Force husband all over the world and was a full-time mother of two and a volunteer at various Air Force tax assistance offices. She has lived in Belgium and Germany and has deep experience with expat and military residency issues. Sally joined Watson CPA Group in early 2014 and became a licensed CPA in Colorado.
In her spare time, she enjoys camping, tailgating at Air Force football games, and spending time with her two teenagers and husband.
Amanda will be the first to tell you she loves organization, efficiency and a fast-paced environment. This brought her to Watson CPA Group during tax season and she never left! Amanda has become an addition to the year-round team as an onboarding liaison and a business development team member. During her day she wears many hats and enjoys moving from one project to another.
In her personal life Amanda loves to spend time with her family, friends and animals. She also loves to curl up with a good book and her cat, usually with some kind of snack nearby. Seriously, during snow storms we all raid Amanda’s desk drawers. Peach Rings, Yum!
Lana Rollins retired from a long career full of accounting and finance for 35 years for a Colorado Springs defense contractor, and at one time was actually the boss of one of our CPAs (hint: not Brian)! She doesn’t let that go to her head though and continues to work for the Watson CPA Group preparing corporate and personal tax returns on Tina’s team (Pod A).
Lana’s passions in life include rescuing cats in her sanctuary (Yes, Tina and Jason were hustled into taking a massive cat named Mocha), remodeling her 70-year old home, swimming and spending time with her daughter and granddaughter.
Tax Preparer, Business Consultant
Brian Baum has recently graduated from UCCS with a double Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Finance. He is currently enrolled working on his Master’s degree. He has also passed all four parts of the CPA exam, and will have his certification once he completes the necessary hours (he can’t be that far off).
Brian joined the Watson CPA Group team as a business consultant, but willingly takes on any task he is handed. He enjoys navigating the complexities of setting up payroll accounts and assisting with reasonable salary recommendations for S Corp owners.
In his spare time Brian enjoys reading, playing chess and has just jumped into the real estate market as the proud owner of a duplex.
Tax Preparer, Business Consultant
Trevor started preparing tax returns one summer to help his uncle out, and found that he actually enjoyed it! Since then Trevor has moved from California to New York to Colorado, each time building on his tax preparation skills. He started his own tax preparation business a few years ago, and has continued to build it while assisting other firms during tax season.
Trevor has been a seasonal tax preparer for Watson CPA Group for two years now. He enjoys researching unique tax situations and digging deep into the tax code (no, really) to find answers for clients.
In his time away from tax Trevor can be found (we hope) hiking or backpacking on some remote trail with his trusty sidekick Australian heeler Neka.
Karen retired after 28 years as support staff in the education field at the high school level. Karen has worked for the Watson CPA Group for two tax seasons as an administrative assistant, and enjoyed it so much she decided to stay on part-time this year in the off-season – gives her a reason to get out of sweats twice a week!
In her free time she loves to play golf (as long as no one’s keeping score), reading a good crime or suspense novel, working in her yard and prowling around thrift stores for good finds. She has 2 grown daughters and 5 grandchildren ranging in ages from 10-17.
Sarah Kallberg has recently joined the Watson CPA Group team as an administrative assistant, and brings a fresh perspective to our firm. She has over 13 years of experience as an executive assistant and enjoys knowing that she is making Tina, Jason, Sally and Amanda’s jobs easier.
Along with assisting others, Sarah has a passion for cooking. She has lived in Colorado Springs for 24 years and is practically a native. She enjoys spending time with her husband of 9 years, her two adult stepdaughters and her grandson.
Anderson Tax Service dba Blue Sky Tax
Mandy came to us for two tax seasons as a tax return preparer, and has recently re-located back to Georgia . She has a Bachelor’s from University of Georgia (Go Dawgs) and a Master’s in Health Administration from University of Alabama. Mandy is also our flight crew liaison and handles all the per diem calculations for our pilots and flight attendants,
As a mother of two and a military wife, Mandy stays busy running the house and running her own company. Please don’t ask her about blue margaritas- it is a sore spot.
Jessica owns her own accounting and tax preparation business on the side, which she has recently expanded. She is also a former auditor for the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment, so she can bring a unique perspective when assisting her clients.
When not in the Watson CPA Group office, or her home office, she prefers to be outside as much as possible. She enjoys chasing her husband and three kids around from one activity to another, which includes traveling out of state to support the two in college.
Alerion Business Solutions
Doug Davidson operated his own accounting firm from within the Watson CPA Group offices. Yeah, it’s weird to have a competitor roaming your halls, but accountants and attorneys seem to work well in a collaborative yet independent environment. In July of 2015, the Watson CPA Group decided to shift our focus to tax preparation, small business consultation and financial planning. Therefore it made a ton of sense to utilize our professional relationship with Doug by transitioning our accounting and payroll to his team.
Yes, we are independent but we also share the same space and talk about clients behind their backs- always in the interest of doing the best we can for you, collectively.
Doug has been a Certified Public Accountant for more than a decade and began his accounting career in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. As a recent transplant to Colorado Springs, he prefers the accounting and payroll worlds over the tax world. Doug brought his own payroll service to plug into the Watson CPA Group which functions as a joint venture for the benefit of our clients.
Yes, he is a huge LSU fan. Yes, he is a huge Saints fan. And he also holds the record for having the most non-matching monitors on a single desk.
