Tax and Business Consultants
The Watson CPA Group is not a group of tax preparers or number crunchers- we are tax and business consultants and our firm will take you through the cycles of your personal and business lives. Many accountants are only compliance oriented, and while IRS compliance is critical, being proactive is equally important.
Not every business runs the same or has the same needs. We want to ask the appropriate questions, listen, and develop a game plan that works for you. Topics such as health insurance, retirement planning, educational assistance programs, health reimbursement arrangements and accountable plans are just some of the areas that define the form and function of today’s business. Square pegs don’t go in round holes- we’ll find the right solution for you and your business.
Moreover, our goal at the Watson CPA Group is to always prepare comprehensive and accurate financial reports, filings and tax returns, but equally important is your understanding of how this stuff “works”. To the extent necessary, we want you to be comfortable with your tax and accounting world so together we can successfully plan for your future.
The Watson CPA Group also embraces technology by utilizing secure client portals and online submit forms to exchange documentation. However, we remain committed to direct delivery, face-to-face interactions and personal relationships with our clients. We are Colorado Springs CPAs but provide nationwide tax and accounting service.
Here is your Watson CPA Group team-
Tina Watson, CPA, MBA
Tina Watson became a Certified Public Accountant in 2003. Tina has both a Bachelor’s and Master’s in Business Administration and consults with a variety of small businesses including Defense Contractors.
Tina takes pride in helping her client understand how the numbers come together. She believes that the extra time spent with a client illustrating the mathematical nuances helps everyone better understand their business. As a mother of three and avid tennis player, Tina still finds time to enjoy traveling, exercise and the occasional moment of downtime (which is like a unicorn).
Jason Watson, EA, MBA
Managing Partner, Business Development
After an inside referral, Jason Watson was selected to head up the business consultation team within the Watson CPA Group. Jason has owned two small businesses in the past and holds both a Bachelor’s and Master’s in Business Administration from the University of Wisconsin – Madison.
His passion is speaking with small business owners and creating a map for the future. Jason enjoys (really!) talking about S Corps, self-employment taxes, health insurance issues and retirement planning. He is quick to point out that while some basics cover all situations, every business is truly unique. Jason has also written a book called Taxpayer’s Comprehensive Guide to LLCs and S Corps. To add to the fun, he also likes dirt biking, boating in Wisconsin and hiking the incline.
Sally began her tax career in 1988 with Ernst and Young (never heard of them, are they big?) in Nashville and became a CPA licensed in Tennessee in 1989. After 10 years of following her Air Force husband all other the world, she became a full-time mother of two and a volunteer at various Air Force tax assistance offices. She has lived in Belgium and Germany, and has deep experience with expat and military residency issues. Sally joined Watson CPA Group after last tax season and just like Hotel California, she can never leave. She looks forward to working with all of you in between skydiving and drag racing.
Mayzie Brown, CPA
Accounting / Tax Manager
Mayzie Brown became a CPA in Colorado in 2011. In 2002, she earned her BS in Accounting from the University of Colorado right here in Colorado Springs. She loves numbers, but her true love is taxes! Mayzie has been a part of the Watson tax team for two years and has recently become a full-time employee in the accounting department – don’t worry, we’re working on a way to clone her so we can still utilize her brain during tax season.
Mayzie worked for the IRS for seven years prior to joining Watson CPA Group. We forgive her for this (no, really!) and her unique perspective has proven invaluable when tackling a tax return. Outside of work Mayzie has a happy, busy life with her husband and their two active boys. She enjoys musicals, concerts, and travel.
Catherine Mast, CPA (in-active)
Catherine Mast graduated from California State University Fullerton with a Bachelor’s in Business Administration and became a Certified Public Accountant in 1993. After relocating to beautiful Colorado and becoming licensed under the State of Colorado as well, she became a stay-at-home Mom to her 4 children but also volunteered her time and talents in the community as a Founder of The Classical Academy, the largest Charter School in the State of Colorado and she assisted her husband in his various Real Estate Businesses over the years.
Catherine returned to public accounting and joined Watson CPA Group 3 years ago after sending her firstborn to college and she enjoys working with small businesses with their internal accounting operations and procedures. Outside of work, family time is her priority and she also enjoys playing tennis, water and snow skiing, hiking and traveling throughout the year.
Brooke Bellmore, MBA, CPA (in process)
According to Brooke, she likes to take raw data and turn it into usable and accurate financial reports that help people see what is happening in their business. She has been providing this type of service for over 11 years and has been focused on working with small businesses since 2007. In her current role, Brooke prepares financial statements and processes payroll for multiple clients.
The mother of two daughters is expecting to sit for the CPA exam during the winter while spending time learning Kempo Karate. As a part of her upcoming black belt testing, Brooke is also dispatched to enforce our reasonable positions at all IRS meetings. And she loves anything to do with reading, animals, plants, nature, sports, and genealogy.
Sean Youngblood, CPA (in process)
Sean has worked with Watson CPA Group since January 2015. He has a Bachelor’s in Business Administration from Colorado State University – Pueblo, and is currently pursuing his CPA accreditation. He has passed all four sections of the CPA exam, and should be fully licensed by the spring of 2016.
Before coming to Watson, Sean had spent the last 10 years of his life managing restaurants. Although he still does this part time, he has now moved to a career that has allowed him to work with his true passion which is working with and manipulating numbers. Sean is a true Colorado native having lived his entire life in the state. Like a true Coloradan, he enjoys doing anything as long as it is outside, and active. This includes golfing, backpacking, camping, disc golfing, mountain biking and anything else you can come up with. And he of course is a dedicated Bronco fan.
Administrative Assistant, Business Development
Amanda will be the first to tell you she loves organization, efficiency and a fast-paced environment. This brought her to Watson CPA Group during tax season and she never left! Amanda has become an addition to the year-round team as an administrative assistant and business development team member. During her day she wears many hats and enjoys moving from one project to another.
In her personal life Amanda loves to spend time with her family, friends and animals. She also loves to curl up with a good book and her cat, usually with some kind of snack nearby.
